When a librarian is not available, refer patrons to:
InterLibrary Loan (ILL) is used to send requested materials (like article scans or physical library items to be loaned out) to any HU patron (usually only current students, staff and faculty) along with outside libraries/institutions.
If a patron cannot find specific materials via our physical or electronic collections, you should direct them to submit a request through our Interlibrary Loan system to see if our staff is able to locate the item via another library.
Be sure to check the InterLibrary Loan queue each shift!
See the Interlibrary Loan tab for further information about student worker responsibilities for InterLIbrary Loan.
Contact a librarian AND email library@harrisburgu if:
You are ill and cannot come to work.
You have an emergency.
Always begin and end your shift with clocking in/out of ADP.
Check in with the HU Librarians to ask if there are any specific tasks that need to be addressed during the shift.
Check the Interlibrary Loan queue for new requests.
Student Library Assistants should be familiar with the following Alma functions:
Primo is the patron-facing side of Alma. Here borrowers can search materials via title, author, call numbers, etc.
It is important to be familiar with searching on both Alma and Primo.
