War games often feature historic settings and head-to-head combat emphasizing tactical maneuvers and battle. These games are available for play in the library.

2 de Mayo: Fast-playing asymmetric Napoleonic wargame featuring simultaneous movement. 2 players. 20-30 minutes.

A Few Acres of Snow: Card-driven wargame with deckbuilding elements set during the French and Indian War of 1754-1763. 2 players. 60 minutes.

Axis & Allies 1941: Entry-level wargame built on classic mechanics. Strategic gameplay in global World War 2 setting. 2-5 players. 1-3 hours. Donated by Wizards of the Coast.

Castle Risk: First variation on the classic military strategy game Risk. Includes various action cards and hidden armies. 2-6 players. 120+ minutes.

Cosmic Encounter: Classic game of negotiation and interstellar colonization. 3-5 players. 60-120 minutes. Donated by Fantasy Flight Games.

Diplomacy: Classic negotiation-based strategy game set in early 20th century Europe. 2-7 players. 3+ hours.

Memoir '44: Accessible hex-based board game with World War 2 theme and multiple scenarios. Utilizes "Commands & Colors" mechanics. 2-8 players on two teams. 40+ minutes.

Neuroshima Hex: Tactical tile-based combat game with several unique factions. 2-4 players. 15-45 minutes. (iPad app; please contact the librarian.)

Rex- Final Days of an Empire: Re-implementation of classic "Dune" strategy board game, now set in the Twilight Imperium universe. Emphasizes player diplomacy, treachery, and dealmaking in pursuit of control of key map locations. 3-6 players. 120+ minutes.

Rivet Wars: Tactical miniatures game inspired by electronic real-time strategy games. Features whimsical aesthetics and variable terrain. 2 players. 30+ minutes. Donated by Cool Mini Or Not.

Small World: Strategy board game featuring randomized factions and vibrant artwork. 2-5 players. 90 minutes.

Space Cadets - Dice Duel: Fast-paced team game pitting two starship crews against each other. Features uniquely frenzied dice-rolling mechanics. 4-8 players. 30 minutes.

Star Wars - X-Wing: Fast-playing miniature space combat game with easy-to-learn rules. 2+ players. 15+ minutes. (Additional copy available on request.)

Summoner Wars: Tactical fantasy-themed combat card game with deckbuilding element. 2-4 players (1-2 players on app version). 30 minutes. (iPad app and extra board also available; please contact the librarian.)
