ILL FAQs
Who can use ILL services?
Current students, faculty and staff only. Unfortunately we cannot offer ILL to alumni or visitors.
What types of material can I request?
ILL services can be used to request scans of articles and limited sections of books, such as a chapter or a short range of pages, assuming that copyright allows for the material to be reproduced and shared legally. The Library cannot borrow print books and will cancel requests for scans of entire books, whether print or eBooks, which violate copyright law, and print copies of books. Multi-media resources including films cannot be requested through ILL. Please contact a librarian for more information about obtaining items cannot be requested through ILL.
How do I get the material I requested?
Scans of the material will be sent to your Harrisburg University email address.
Do I have to return the scans I receive?
No. They are yours to keep! But please do not re-share the material unless the method of sharing meets Fair Use Guidelines.
What does ILL cost to use?
Although the Harrisburg University Library pays for the infrastructure required to operate ILL services, requested material is provided at no cost to the community.
How long does a scan take to arrive?
Please allow 48-72 hours for your item to be delivered. Some partner libraries do not process ILL requests on weekends or holidays and services may be slower during partner universities' breaks.
Why was my request cancelled?
Occasionally our partner libraries are unable to provide requested material. You can re-submit your request or email library@harrisburgu.libanswers.com for assistance.
