Artificial Intelligence Guide for Students

Citing Artificial Intelligence Sources

If you use any material generated from AI for a course, you must cite it, just as you would any other source.

The Harrisburg University Library's APA Citation Guide can help you learn how to cite all of your material correctly.

In general, material generated through AI is cited like any other source, using as many of the following elements as are available in the following order and style including punctuation as noted.

Layout of Citation:

Author. (Date).Title (Month Day version) [Additional Descriptions ]. Source.

  • Author = The author of the model, such as OpenAI for ChatGPT.
  • Date =: The year that the material was generated, such as (2025).
  • Title = The name of the model with its version number, such as ChatGPT (April 2025 version).
  • Additional Description = The type of AI, such as [Large language model] or {Digital assistant].
  • Source = The address of the program, such as https://chat.openai.com/.
