Research Help

Need help getting started on your research project?  Come to the Learning Commons for help with doing research and pulling it together in writing.  Call 717-901-5188 or send a message to to begin. 


Book SelfCheck

Try our self-check kiosk to check out as many books as you'd like--you won't believe how easy it is!  Over 3,000 books are available on our shelves. Bring your HU ID card, which serves as your library card. 


Equipment Loan

The following equipment is available on loan:

  • TI-83 and TI-84 graphing calculators
  • Handheld videocamera with mini-tripod
  • 4G-equipped netbooks and wireless devices

Calculator loans are per semester; videocameras are loaned for one day; 4G devices are loaned as-needed.  Make an appointment to pick up the equipment at or by calling 717-901-5188.  Paperwork must be filled out first. 


Using Interlibrary Loan


Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary loan helps current Harrisburg University students, faculty, and staff get copies of items that are unavailable in our own library.  Just tell us what you need; we will find out which other library owns it and request a copy, free of charge to you. 

You can request these types of materials:

Loans Copies
Books Journal articles
Theses and dissertations Newspaper articles
Microforms Magazine articles
Video & sound recordings Book chapters
Conference proceedings chapters

Placing Requests for Interlibrary Loan Materials 

Submit your contact information and all the information that you have about the item by filling out one of these forms:

                     Book Request Form            Article Request Form

Please allow 7 business days to receive your information request. You will be notified when your item is ready for pick-up.  If your document comes in electronic format, we will e-mail it to you at the address specified in the form.

Please note: The Harrisburg University Library does not regularly provide course textbooks as a matter of policy. If you have any questions about interlibrary loan, please call the University Librarian at 717-901-5188.


Reserve a Group Study Room

Reserve one of the four group study rooms available in the Learning Commons by sending a message to or calling 717-901-5188. 

Each group study room features:

  • table and seating for 8
  • a large wall-mounted LCD display that can display your laptop or other VGA/audio output device
  • wireless access
  • whiteboard

Try Mediacast for educational DVDs and feature films.  Log on using your network ID and password.
